If you find yourself heading to Port Lligat to visit the Dali House Museum, you may want to take a minute to visit the Ermita de Sant Baldiri (Hermitage of Saint Baudilus.)

Saints Abdon and Sennen Ermita de Sant Baldiri Cadaques Spain

Built to house the relics of Saints Abdon and Sennen, yet dedicated to Saint Baudilus, this tiny, late-17th-century/early-18th-century chapel features a stark white exterior, a wall surrounding the church yard, a simple façade topped by a lone bell, and, near the covered entrance, a metal crucifix that looks eerily like a crossbow (on the left) and metal sculptures of Abdon and Sennen (on the right).

If the chapel is open, step inside.  The single-nave interior features white-plastered and exposed-stone walls, vaulted ceilings, small windows, a simple stone altar, and several statues and other artifacts.  Among these are:

Iron Crucifix Ermita de Sant Baldiri Cadaques Spain

A very modern iron sculpture of Jesus on the cross,

Statue of Mary with Boat Ermita de Sant Baldiri Cadaques Spain

and a gleaming statue of Mary with a votive boat at her feet.

Funerary Art Ermita de Sant Baldiri Cadaques Spain

While you’re here, if the red gate near the chapel entrance is open, step into the adjacent church yard – a peaceful 19th-century cemetery with views of the bay at Portlligat, a modern crucifix, funerary art,

Painted Tomb de Sant Baldiri Cadaques Spain

and burial vaults beautifully decorated with paintings and portraits.

Getting there:

The Ermita de Sant Baldiri is located at the intersection of Avinguda Sant Baldiri and Avinguda Salvador Dalí.
