Being In Bruges

If all you know about Bruges is what you’ve seen in the quirky film ‘In Bruges’,  we highly recommend that you put those thoughts aside (or not) and see this charming town for yourself.  It’s so attractive and historically rich that we’ve included Bruges in our ‘Where to go on your first trip to Europe’ list.

Bruges (Brugge in Flemish) is one of the most strikingly beautiful cities in Belgium, anytime of year.  This small, compact municipality, often called the Venice of the North for its many canals and bridges, can be very crowded in the high season resulting in a less than pleasant experience. The massive crowds also tend to distract from the beauty of Bruges.  Visiting in early spring or late fall, maybe even in winter, will reveal more of the city’s attractive architecture, picturesque canals and bridges, and the general quaintness of the Medieval old town, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
